The Invisible Load: Solving Caregiver Burnout via State Management

Who changed the bedsheets? Who picked up the prescription? How application state management can solve the silent crisis of the Sandwich Generation.

Women in the 'Sandwich Generation' often become the default family carer, managing both aging parents and young children. The physical toll is massive, but the cognitive toll - the 'Invisible Load' - is what breaks people.

When multiple people are involved in caregiving, relying on verbal updates causes immense friction. Trying to remember dosages and exactly what the doctor said requires a flawless memory audit that stressed humans simply cannot perform.

In software engineering, when multiple components need to access the same data without passing props through twenty layers, we use State Management. I applied this exact software architecture to my family.

By building a single 'Source of Truth' dashboard, family members could instantly query the 'State' of the household. It removed the need for me to verbally explain a bad day, and it forced accountability onto the entire network.
